Psalms 119:72 NLT
Many of us work hard to ensure our families have enough money to do all the things we want. We grow our own garden, we learn how to sew, we use hand-me-downs and shop at the thrift store. We make our own cleaners and toothpaste. We know where and when to shop to get the best prices. We get creative when we need a few extra bucks by crafting things to sell or babysitting an extra kid (I mean, what is one more?).
Our culture does not help. Our culture tells us to get the biggest and the best and the newest and to go on vacations to exotic locations yearly. So we may save for these things and do them. There is nothing wrong with that in and of itself.
How much time do we spend a day thinking about, stressing about, budgeting, spending, etc our money?
How much time do we spend thinking about, meditating on, reading, discussing, etc God's Word?
The Bible says "Your instructions are more valuable to me than millions in gold and silver." Psalms 119:72 NLT
We focus so much on money and so little on God's Word. Money is a tool. Do not let it rule you. Do not let it consume you.
Instead focus on God's Word and His promises to take care of you.
We are called to be wise stewards of our money and resources, but these things should not own us or control us. Our time should be spent seeking the Lord not seeking money.
Your children look at you. They see your actions and hear your words. You can tell them God is important but if your actions are not showing them that than you are wasting your time telling them.
Model how you want them to grow up. Do the things you want them to do. They will see you, see what is important in this life, and they will copy you.
Heavenly Father, we thank you for this day and for all of the blessings you have given us. We are so grateful for your abundant mercy and grace. Thank you for this reminder today that you have promised to take care of us. Help us to remember that your word is more important than any money we could gain. Help us to focus on you so our children can see how important you are. Thank you Lord. Amen.
