How Can We Change The World If We Look Just Like It?

Romans 12:2

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Time and time again we see how when the people of God choose to do things the world's way it ends in pain and destruction. We see this when the Israelites didn't trust God enough to take the promised land, so they had to wander around the desert for 40 years. This is seen when Solomon, who was the most wise king, decided to allow the influence of his wives to convince him to worship other gods. This caused God's anger and Solomon's eventual death. These stories are seen all throughout the Bible.

It is so easy for us, as moms, to look at what the other moms are doing and think we need to do this or that. We may even question the things we choose to do because everyone else does it differently. But what does the Bible tell us? It says to be different. To be in the world but not of the world. To be a light in the darkness. To be different so we can make a difference.

The world says to let your kids cry it out, we choose to tenderly answer the cries of our children.

The world says to exert authority and use punitive punishment, we choose to practice Christ-like, gentle parenting techniques.

The world says to let your kids eat whatever they want, we choose to research and feed them quality food.

The world says just put your kid with a sensory disorder on medication, we choose to use more holistic options to address the root of the issue.

The world says wean your baby when he can ask for milk, we choose to embrace full-time breastfeeding.

And so on.

As moms it can feel lonely doing things differently than the way everyone else is doing them. Take heart, because the best way to change the world is by being different. Enacting change is what we are called to do.

So be different. Be brave. Stand up for what you know to be the truth. Be a gentle parent. Share the gospel unashamed. Be you, because that's who God created you to be.

Let's pray:

Lord, we thank you for calling us to be different. To live a life that reflects you and not the world. It gets lonely sometimes, so please help us to stay connected to our tribe of like-minded mommas. Help us to be unashamed of who we are and what we choose to do for our family. Thank you for setting us apart. Help us to always follow you and not be tempted to follow the world. We love you.

Amen.
